NOAA Commissioned Personnel Center deeply regrets to report the passing of Rear Admiral Kelly Edward Taggart. In 1980, RADM Taggart was appointed Director of NOAA Commissioned Corps and also directed the National Ocean Service. He retired in 1986 after 32 years of service. RADM Taggart was the recipient of the Department of Commerce Silver Metal, Karo Award of Society of Military Engineers, Distinguished Engineer from the University of Missouri and many others. He also served on Capitol Hill in the Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs. RADM Taggart served seven years aboard five survey vessels, as well as nine years in full flying status, flying both Rotary and Fixed wing aircraft on mapping missions. He passed away at the age of 81 from the ill effects of Alzheimer’s disease on May 7, 2014 and is survived by his wife, three children and two granddaughters. He was laid to rest on May 13, 2014 at St. Paul's Evangelical Cemetery in Jamestown, Missouri.
Effective April 2014, TRICARE began the national rollout of the Nurse Advice Line (NAL) program. The goal of the NAL is to provide consistent tele-health services to TRICARE beneficiaries in order to improve access to healthcare and reduce the number of unnecessary emergency room visits. The NAL is comprised of a team of registered nurses (RNs) who will assist TRICARE beneficiaries 24 hours a day, seven days a week by triaging medical conditions and offering advice regarding whether or not to provide self treatment, seek immediate medical attention and/or will provide assistance with securing access to a military or private sector medical facility.
The program is available to all TRICARE beneficiaries permanently residing in the CONUS, Alaska and Hawaii or visiting within CONUS from overseas and will provide beneficiaries with a single access point to secure healthcare advice(Toll-free telephone number: 1-800-TRICARE (874-2273), Option 1).
