In a recent database search for the location of NOAA Corps officers and their dependents, a significant difference was found between the system's data and actual number of dependents co-located at duty stations with their sponsors.
Why is this important to keep up to date? There are two primary reasons CPC needs the information to be current. The first reason is accountability. In the event of an emergency (natural or manmade), NOAA is required to report on personnel in the incident's Area of Concern (AOC). CPC takes this accountability to the next level to ensure officer dependents are accounted for within the AOC. Additionally, if an evacuation is authorized/ordered, CPC will then issue travel orders for officers and their dependents. Ensuring the "Dependents' Address" is up-to-date will allow CPC to quickly issue the evacuation as they are developed according to the current "Dependents Address" associated with the AOC. Therefore, it is impairitive this information be current to avoid potential complications with evacuation related travel and the associated reimbursements.
The second reason is ensuring proper entitlements are addressed. CPC regularly reviews leave and earning statemtent information to ensure officers are properly documenting and receiving appropriate entitlements. CPC will cross reference the BAH/Dependency Data Form filed annually by officers claiming dependents with the"Dependents Address" for verification of benefits. It is the Officer's responsibility to update this information via OPF Online.
A final list of officers to receive an organizational Gold, Silver, or Bronze award has been completed. Notifications will be published in an upcoming CYBERFLASH. Packages for awards will go out to recipients soon thereafter.
