Message from the Director

Fellow NOAA Corps officers,

The NOAA Corps Amendments Act of 2019, introduced in Congress as H.R. 2406 on April 30, 2019, can be tracked or you can review the current language using your favorite legislative branch tracking application. It is available via the official congressional website here.

Representative Ed Case from Hawaii introduced the Bill. You can watch his concise speech at: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BcND9JxsOGA

Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and Deputy NOAA Administrator RDML Gallaudet testified for NOAA at a hearing of the House Natural Resources Committee, Subcommittee on Water, Oceans and Wildlife on Representative Case's NOAA Corps Reauthorization Bill. That testimony can be found here towards the bottom of page four.

His testimony captures what it means to be a NOAA Corps officer. It is always welcome to see others, especially leadership, acknowledge the contributions we make to the Nation.

CPC Webinar: Officer Evaluation System (OES)

Questions about the Officer Evaluation System (OES) are a common theme in the Career Management Division. The OES is important to every officer for not only promotion purposes, but also to provide feedback for performance improvement. CPC will host a webinar on September 30, 2019, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM eastern time on the topic. We will provide a web address and call in numbers. The webinar will be available on the CPC website for viewing by any officers who were not available during the broadcast. Please tune in and come with any questions you would like addressed.

Officer Assignment Board: O-4/O-5 Shore Assignments

An Officer Assignment Board (OAB) for O-4/O-5 shore assignments will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. The OAB will be prepared to look at potential O-4/O-5 officers and assignments up to 18 months from now. If you are due to rotate to a shore/ground assignment in the next 18 months, please ensure your assignment preferences are up to date, discuss potential assignments with the appropriate liaison officer and contact the assignment coordinator, CDR Stephen Kuzirian, with any questions at 301-713-7694 or assignmentbranch.cpc@noaa.gov.

Potential Aviation Candidates

Because it can take several weeks to schedule and complete an initial flight physical, it is strongly recommended that you schedule this flight physical prior to calls for aviation volunteers. These flight physicals are valid for one year from the date of completion. Any officer interested in the initial flight program should contact CDR Joseph Newcomb at (863) 500-3991 or joseph.newcomb@noaa.gov for more information about the flight physical requirements, forms, and locations where the flight physicals can be performed.
