Call for Volunteers: BOTC 142 Interviews

NOAA Corps Recruiting is looking for motivated Officers (O2-O4) who are willing to complete interviews for BOTC 142. To improve consistency, Recruiting is asking each interviewer to conduct a minimum of 3-5 interviews.

Officers will conduct all interviews virtually via Google Meet. Interviews can be scheduled as early as the second week of November, with all interviews completed by January 6th.

This interview process is your chance to have a direct hand in shaping the future of the NOAA Corps. Please email LCDR Andrew Reynaga at noaacorps.recruiting@noaa.gov if you are interested. Thank you for your consideration!

CLC Training for Promotion Curricula Update

The curricula titled NOAA Corps 1: LTJG, NOAA Corps 2: LT, and NOAA Corps 3: LCDR have been updated in CLC.

How to Launch the New Curricula:
When you log in to your CLC account, you will see the old curricula are inactive. Use the search bar and type in either ‘NOAA Corps 1: LTJG, NOAA Corps 2: LT, or NOAA Corps 3’ as applicable. Launch the active curriculum. Once launched, you should see your progress reflects what it was in your prior version. Some courses within the curricula have both the new and legacy versions present. You only need to complete one version of that course.

External Training Requirements
For external training courses linked outside CLC, please click on the blue information icons next to those courses for instructions on how to complete the external training and provide your completion certificates to cpc.training@noaa.gov.

If you run into any problems or have any questions please contact LT Diane Perry at 931-623-2086 or cpc.training@noaa.gov.

Aviation Advisory Board: Initial Flight

An Aviation Advisory Board will convene in early December to recommend officers for initial flight training. Start dates for flight training will be determined based on the needs of the service and rotation dates of the officers selected. Previous flight experience is not required for this opportunity, however, it is highly encouraged and will help applicants determine if aviation is a desirable career path. Time in Service will not be limited for the purpose of this candidate selection and selected applicants will incur an Active Duty Service Obligation of six years.

Requirements for the NOAA Corps Aviation Selection Process:

  • Complete all sections of NOAA Form 56-43 (Application for NOAA Corps Aviation Program)
  • Complete a USCG Class I flight physical.
  • Complete the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT)
  • Complete the Test of Basic Aviation Skills (TBAS). This test must be taken after the AFOQT.
  • Retrieve and include your Pilot Candidate Selection Method (PCSM) score. This is a combination of the two tests above and your flight experience. If the AFOQT and TBAS tests were completed previously, a retake is not necessary.
  • A recommendation for aviation selection must be included in Section 10 (Potential) of the applicant's Officer Evaluation Report (NOAA form 56-6A), or provide a written endorsement from your current supervisor.

To be considered, officers need to notify LCDR Joseph Carrier (assignmentbranch.cpc@noaa.gov) and LCDR Alan Hough (aoc.chiefadmin@noaa.gov) by COB on November 3, 2022. AOC will be responsible for conducting virtual interviews for all applicants and a complete aviation application package must arrive at the Commissioned Personnel Center by COB, December 1, 2022.

For questions about NOAA aviation careers and the application process, contact LCDR Alan Hough (alan.hough@noaa.gov). For questions specific to medical requirements and USCG Class I flight physicals, contact CAPT Joe Newcomb, USPHS, (joseph.newcomb@noaa.gov) or (863) 500-3991.
