NOAA Corps Service Uniform(NCSU) - Uniform Transition

As many Officers are aware, all of the Services are currently going through a uniform transition period. The Uniform Award Board (UAB) was tasked by RADM Bailey to review the NOAA Corps sea bag and provide him with uniform recommendations. Members of the UAB met with RADM Bailey June 5, 2009 and presented four options (Status Quo, transition to all Navy uniforms, transition to all USCG uniforms and the creation of a new NOAA Corps Service Uniform) for his review. RADM Bailey is supporting the creation of a NOAA Corps Service Uniform (NCSU).

The NCSU is modeled after the Army/Air Force Service Uniform and utilizes the NC Service Dress Blue uniform. The NCSU has 3 configurations, Dress Blue NCSU, Class A NCSU and Class B NCSU. The transition to the NCSU will update NOAA Corps uniforms, create ease of wear and care, and simplify uniform options for Officers. The NCSU will decrease the size of an Officers Sea bag to a total of 4 required uniforms (the 3 NCSU configurations and the ODU), remove service khakis and all whites from service, save Officers an average of $800 on the initial purchase of uniforms and will reduce annual maintenance costs for uniform upkeep.
